Cooper Burnett's Senior Partner, Jonathan Smithers, having served a term as President of the Law Society of England and Wales, has been offered and has accepted the appointment as the next Chief Executive Officer of the Law Council of Australia.

Jonathan will be retiring from the Partnership to take up this very prestigious role, but will remain as a consultant to the firm.

Jonathan said “I am truly grateful to my Partners and all my colleagues for the unstinting support which I have received during my term of office as President. After thirty-two years at the firm, from articled clerk to Senior Partner, I will miss the friendship and camaraderie of so many with whom I have been privileged to work. I am looking forward to taking up my new post and to be able to utilise the knowledge and skills which I have garnered both at the Law Society and at CooperBurnett.”

Partner Victoria Sampson said “Whilst we are really sorry to see Jonathan go, this is an important international role into which I know he will put energy and enthusiasm. The Partners and staff wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him on his return trips to the UK.”
