Law firm Brachers to establish new base at Discovery Park

Maidstone-based law firm Brachers announced today it is taking 1,030 sq ft of office space at Discovery Park, as it looks to extend its reach into East Kent and forge closer relationships with existing clients and prospects in this part of the region.

Initially, the office will be headed by corporate partner Sean Gorman, one of the region's leading corporate finance lawyers according to the Chambers & Partners legal directory. The firm's full range of legal services - corporate, commercial, property, IP, IT and employment law, as well as private client services - will be on tap to businesses in the Discovery Park and the East Kent area.

Brachers will also use its new base to offer its HR consultancy service, Kent HR, to small and medium-sized businesses in and around Discovery Park, and beyond. The team of highly-experienced HR professionals deliver a variety of HR solutions which includes supporting SMEs and fast-growing businesses that do not have their own in-house HR function.

Discovery Park is Europe’s leading science and technology park, and its ambitious plans continue to attract like-minded dynamic businesses to the site. It was launched in August 2012 and is a 220-acre development at the former Pfizer site in Sandwich. Discovery Park is an Enterprise Zone and is home to a range of businesses with a focus on pharmaceuticals and life sciences.  Over 60 businesses are currently located on the site, employing more than 1,300 people.

Extending its reach into East Kent is part of Brachers growth plan, as the firm builds on its success in the region and looks to the future. The firm’s recent work in the region includes advising on the sale of Kent Pharmaceuticals and most recently a deal to expand electronics component manufacturer Maruwa's production at its European headquarters in Ashford.

Brachers Managing Partner Jo Worby, said of the development today: "Discovery Park is an exciting initiative for the region and we are delighted to be supporting it at this early stage. Brachers has both strong links with the region’s past, having been established in Kent for over a century, and an ongoing investment in its future.  Our commitment to Discovery Park is an illustration of this. Today 70% of the firm’s work still comes from Kent and we are proud of our continuing key role in many of the region’s most significant developments."

Partner, Sean Gorman, who will lead the new office added: “It’s great to be able to support what is a significant and ambitious project which will have a long-lasting impact on Kent and its business community. “
