Rowan wins Gold at the Calgary World Cup!

Rowan Cheshire, a member of GB Freeski who Reeves are supporting in the run up to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, takes Gold at the FIS Calgary World Cup in freeski halfpipe on Friday 3 January 2014 becoming the first British woman to win halfpipe gold.

Great Britain's Rowan Cheshire won gold amidst unseasonably warm and changing overnight snow conditions at the Canada Olympic Park, 35 days ahead of the XXII Winter Olympic Games, Sochi.

On her win, Cheshire commented; "My heart was racing, I'm so glad I was able to do that and get my run just right. I was trying not to speed check, trying not to slow down and luckily we waxed our skis the night before. This means that I qualify for Sochi, and cements my spot (on the British team)".

Rowan (18) is one of a dozen previously self-funded Freeski athletes integrated over the past two years into the Great Britain ‘Park to Podium Performance Programme’. The programme funds significant international training and competition costs through the Government-funded Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and generous provisions from team partners Bawbags, Reeves and private individual and family donations, all co-ordinated by the Skiers Trust.

Pat Sharples, Head Coach at GB Freeski, comments; “Reeves support of our athletes is vital to taking us forward and all at GBFreeski would like to pass on their warmest thanks to Reeves and everyone else involved in supporting the team”.

In combination with funding for young talented athletes the Programme builds in hybrid initiatives to improve the athletes' personal off-slope resources through in-kind professional services support. Reeves draws on its partner expertise in offshore and sport tax and accounting to directly aid athletes and maximise on slope training time.

Nigel Fright, Managing Partner at Reeves comments; "We are absolutely delighted for Rowan's fantastic achievement at the Calgary World Cup! When we found out we had the opportunity to make a difference to some of Great Britain's Winter Olympic programme, we jumped at the chance!"

"The dedication, talent and creativity shown by these young athletes is inspirational. We also have some rising athletes and a World Champion of our own at Reeves, so we are delighted to be helping, and to be a part of the team behind the team! We wish the whole team the best of the luck in the run up to the Winter Olympics!"
