The sale of Power Efficiency to Balfour Beatty, advised on by the team at Brachers, has scooped the Deal of the Year award at the Insider’s South East Dealmakers Awards 2012 held at The Copthorne Hotel at Effingham Park, Gatwick. The awards ceremony, which was compered by Gyles Brandreth, brought together the leading players in the corporate finance community from across the region.

Despite tough competition, the sale of Sidcup-based energy consultancy Power Efficiency to Balfour Beatty for £18m in April 2011, stood out. Brachers advised on the deal along with Castle Corporate Finance, another KCFA member and Eightoaks. Power Efficiency provides energy consultancy services to blue-chip clients, along with assisting property management firms on their client portfolios. They ensure that clients get best value from their energy suppliers and also assist with environmental compliance.

Phil Cunningham, head of Corporate & Commercial at Brachers, commented: “Brachers had been working with the shareholders and management team of Power Efficiency for a number of years, including advising on an MBO in 2008. We have always enjoyed working with them, but this transaction was a pleasure from start to finish. To have the deal acknowledged in this way is the icing on the cake and a fitting end to a year where we have been involved in a number of large and complex deals.”

John Field, a former shareholder of Power Efficiency, also commented: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil and his team for an exceptionally capable and effective service over the years, with all the knowledge and experience but none of the pedantry and defensiveness that might normally be associated with top class lawyers. They were prepared to offer advice and on more than one occasion I was extremely grateful for that.”
